Job Standards

    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of two years’ experience in Assisted Living or Skilled Care and a preference for a minimum of three years’ experience in supervision of staff.
    • CBRF certified.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills with a focus on the customer and problem resolution.
    • Proficient at basic typing, clerical & computers skills, including knowledge of Word & Excel.
    • Self-motivated, with ability to multitask and prioritize tasks based on resident need.
    • Ability to appropriately prioritize workload, direct and evaluate staff in the completion of assigned tasks.
    • Ability to work flexible hours to meet with staff on first, second, or weekend shifts, as needed.
    • Proven ability to handle stressful situations and resolve problems using maturity and sound judgment.
    • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
    • Numerical ability to evaluate and prepare statistical material for budget purposes and cost control systems.
    • Able to safely perform essential functions of the job without harm to self or others with or without reasonable accommodation.

Essential Job Functions

  • Adheres to all policies and procedures regarding resident and staff safety.
  • Understands and supports Cedar Crest’s Customer Service Expectations.
  • Assists in developing annual department budget. Once finalized, monitors expenses on a monthly basis and makes adjustments to stay within budget guidelines.
  • Provides list of possible capital improvement items on an annual basis.
  • Contacts vendors for bids on new products and services as needed, and reviews with Administrator for approval.
  • Establishes and maintains harmonious work relationships with other departments, residents, and visitors. Communicates in a respectful and effective manner with staff and residents.
  • Supervise and support the PCA’s in the following areas:
  • Participate in hiring process, conduct introductory, and annual performance appraisals.
  • Follow up on completion and documentation of services that are scheduled including discussion with care providers regarding inconsistencies, repeated refusals, missing documentation, quality issues, safety issues, and performance issues.
  • In conjunction with the Assisted Living Nurse Manager, communicates with residents and family members regarding the need to increase/decrease services or concerns that arise related to services being provided and follow up to maintain resident focused customer service.
  • Attend all Individual Service Plan meetings and other formal and informal resident-related meetings.
  • Scheduling of all resident services related to the role of the PCA, including:
  • Collaborating with Nursing, Social Services, Life Enrichment in dealing with behavior challenges presented by specific residents.
  • Maintenance of established documentation systems including availability of resident specific emergency information, end of month documentation transition, etc.
  • Facilitate services provided by other departments, i.e. maintenance, housekeeping, food service, central supply, etc.
  • Collaborate with Scheduler to revise scheduling patterns or assignments based on program needs, budget considerations, etc., making every effort to maintain consistent assignments and minimizing premium pay.
  • Work with CEO, VP of Clinical Services, AL Nurse Manager, Supervisors, and other disciplines to enhance and maintain the services provided.
  • Performs the following tasks related to the supervision of PCA staff:
  • Coordinates department orientation of new staff. Gathers feedback regarding trainee’s progress and performance. Ensures documentation related to training of new hires is completed in a timely fashion. Follows up on training issues and new staff member’s adjustment during that individual’s first three months of employment.
  • Implements corrective action to improve performance including education, mentoring, and the disciplinary process.
  • Completes performance reviews within the guidelines of established policies and procedures. Monitor PCA performance on an on-going basis, providing feedback/referrals to Human Resources and the Nursing Department support staff for additional training as needed.
  • Develops standardized procedures for all PCA staff duties, incorporating visual aids.
  • Maintains open communication in order to address operational issues and promote teamwork among all staff.
  • Collaborates with the off shift and weekend Nursing Supervisors to ensure follow- through to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Adjusts his/her own schedule as needed in order to be available to support staff on all shifts.
  • In the absence of the VP of Clinical Services, assumes responsibility for the daily operations of the Assisted Living programs, utilizing the AL Nurse Manager, Social Services, Life Enrichment, and facility administration as resources for problem solving. Consults with CEO in cases of emergency or out-of-the ordinary circumstances.
  • Completes mandatory training including ongoing 15 hours of in-service annually, per state regulations. Participates in mandatory Campus in-services/meetings
